A few changes: Jay's tie and pie event is on the 30th, same place, same time.  Also don't forget Devin and Britny's Wedding Open House on December 27th from 7-9 at the church.

Super Saturday, November 1, 2008

The Sisters all came together for a day of crafts and fun! Some great projects were done and thanks to the Enrichment committee for all their hard work.

November Sister Spotlight: Sister Garloff

I was named after my grandmother.  Her name is Giovanna, which is Joanne in Italian.  My birthday is February 3rd, and I was born in Washington, PA.  My favorite color is Turquoise.

I have been a part of this Ward for as long as I have been a member of the church, which has been since October 26th, 2008.

I recommend both the book "The Great Gatsby" and the movie- the original with Mia Farrow and Robert Redford.  They portray the time period very well.

I enjoy reading, journaling, card making, and watching football and hockey.

When I was little, what I wanted to be when I "grew up" was a nurse and help sick people.

If I could travel anywhere in the world I would go to Israel.  I would like to walk where the Lord walked, and see the part of the world he lived in.

The farthest I have been from home is Alaska.  I went there 10 years ago with my husband, and we took a two day trip to Barrow.

September Sister Spotlight: Jeanne Machin

My mom does family history and came across a long line of Jeanne Coventrys in my line.  I am Jeanne Coventry the 9th.

My birthday is January 19, 1976 and I was born in Davenport, Iowa.

My favorite color's are Caribbean Sea Blue and Fire engine red, but not always together!

I have been a member of the church for 32 years, and I have spent 7 of those years in this ward.

I recommend always wearing lipstick, even in a seemingly ridiculous situation.  Exercising daily and eating at Lydia's in the Strip District as often as possible (which is why you need to exercise daily!)

The one kitchen item that best describes me is a shiny gold lamé potholder.... every day practical with a touch of glamour.

My hobbies and talents include singing, playing violin, baking and cooking ( I make a mean chocolate chip cookie) Yoga, walking/running, I'm a big movie-buff, choral singing and conducting, and acting like a Muppet to make my kids and husband laugh.

When I was little, what I wanted to be when I grew up was to work at McDonalds.  I then upgraded to wanting to be a chef... but those fries keep calling my name!

If I could travel anywhere in the world I would choose Egypt to see the pyramids, Peru to hike to Machu Picchu, Paris to see EVERYTHING and the Virgin Islands to snorkel in that gorgeous, blue water.

The farthest I have been from home is Majorca, Spain.

August Sister Spotlight: Jennifer Lee Olsen

I was born in Layton Utah on September 9, 1978.  I was named after my Grandma Donna Lee Andras because she was an incredible woman.

My favorite color is celery green.

I have been a member of the church my whole life and have been in the Pittsburgh Second Ward for 3 1/2 years.

I recommend Ice Blocking.  It can make you feel like a kid until the next day at least. :)  Then you become sore and realize you aren't a kid anymore.

The item in the kitchen that best describes me is Fiesta Red Chili Pepper Chip/Dip Platter because I love spicy food and having parties.

Some of my hobbies and talents include: singing, making bracelets, cooking, organizing (not my house though), listening, playing the guitar, dancing, having food fights with my family.....and I make cute kids!

When I was little I wanted to be either a Doctor or a fast food worker when I grew up.

I want to see the whole world.  First class and five star, or a backpack and a sleeping bag....I want to see it all!

The furthest I have been from Utah is Stone Harbor, NJ.  The furthest from Pittsburgh I have been is Utah.

JULY'S SISTER SPOTLIGHT

I was born on March 21st, in Dexter, Maine.  My favorite color is blue.

I have been a member of the church for 45 years, I converted in my youth.  I have been a member of Pittsburgh 2nd Ward for 11 years.

I Recommend spending time with young children.  They are loving, forgiving, honest and the least unspoiled by the world.

The kitchen item that best describes me is the blender. :)  I usually blend in easily with any group of people, and like to help other people feel a part of what's happening.

I love the ocean and collect lighthouse memorabilia in particular.  A joke in our family is that my grandchildren are my hobby now.  I love to spend time with them, and collect things that I think they will enjoy.

When I was little, what I wanted to do when I grew up was go to college, be married and have children.

If I could travel anywhere in the world it would be to visit any of my children and grandchildren, who live in distant states.  I'd really rather see their loving faces than any other sight in the world.

The farthest I have been from home is Portland, OR....and the Pacific Ocean near there.

This year the Hill Cumorah Pageant is from July 10-19 (excluding the 13th and 14th.)

There are 10 cabins, each sleeping 16 people, tent areas, a kitchen, an amphitheater with log sets and a fire-pit, bathrooms with showers, swimming, boating, and dinning with seating up to 250 people.  In addition to the cabins, there is a home a little separated from the camp with 5 bedrooms, 3 1/2 baths, full kitchen, washer, dryer, ect.  You can check all of these things out on the website.
